Coco & Breezy
How did you come up with the glasses idea?
Coco: It was about four years ago. We are from Minnesota and we created eye wear on our own. Being from Minnesota, where there isn’t a lot of fashion or access to fabulous clothes, we kind of created our own style and no one really understood us.
Breezy: So people used to stare at us, laugh at us, we were just really misunderstood.
Coco: So we created our eye wear for ourselves as a shield to block us so we didn’t have to make eye contact with these people.
Breezy: Then on our 19th birthday, we just quit everything and moved to New York to start our business.
How do you deal with competition?
Breezy: Honestly, when I think of the word competition, I think of it like the people who are in the same demographic or the same aesthetic. But I don’t look at it like, “Oh, I hate that other brand!” If I see anyone doing something amazing, we do nothing but support them.
Coco: I think most people use competition in a negative way; we use it to say that brand has the same market as us; we have the same customer, so how am I going to be different from this brand?
Breezy: What’s going to separate me?
